Remember those gardenias I was just telling you about? Well, where I planted them wasn’t working out, so quick like and in a hurry I had to re-plant them.

OK…confession…I think I pretty much planted them correctly, but my chickens thought that it would be in their best interest to peck them to death.

In an effort to save the flowers, I replanted them in some old terra-cotta pots that I had painted with chalk paint last year.

Unfortunately, it was late, I was tired and I didn’t take the time to make sure that the pots were ready for planting. The outsides were dirty and stained and not up to standard.

I took the pots, with flowers still planted and tried to fancy them up a little while my mini-me painted some masterpieces of her own right beside me.

First, I wiped the pots down to get off any excess dirt off.

Then I used some leftover Waverly Chalk paint. I didn’t want to cover the entire pot so I used a foam brush and played touch up.

I still wanted a slightly weathered look, so I left a little of the stain showing through.

One pot was blue, and I decided covered it with plaster color chalk paint and then after it dried, I dabbed on some yellow with a crumpled paper towel.

Honestly, I am wasn’t thrilled with the yellow, but by the next day, the color has started to grow on me. I am still not totally sure, so I am considering adding a monogram to the front. You know, southern girls put monograms everywhere, right?!?

I’ll keep you posted on what the finished product looks like but for now I am 100% pleased that I didn’t throw these pots out when I wanted to this winter. Clay pots are inexpensive and often aren’t the prettiest for garden décor. But, with a little paint, anything can be perfect.
